Claw Toe
Claw toes or Clawfoot is defined as: A high-arched foot with the toes hyper-extended at the metatarsalphalangeal (mtp) joint and flexed at the distal joints.
Claw toes may result from a muscle imbalance, arthritis, heredity, or ill fitting footwear. Many factors can cause the ligaments and tendons to become unnaturally tight, which results in the joints curling downwards. |
Treatment:
Footwear is extremely important with any forefoot deformity. A deep toe box and good support which helps to hold the foot in a more "neutral" position will assist with the claw toes. Additionally an orthotic can be a great help in further relieving any pain or discomfort. Toe products such as pads and splints can help keep pressure off the toes as long as the shoes fit properly.
