Pronation (Pes Planus)
Heredity, obesity, pregnancy, standing long periods of time, normal stress forces from everyday use, running/jumping for prolonged periods of time, and injury are common causes. Persons with flat feet do not experience pain immediately. Sometimes it takes several years of "flattening" before a person may exhibit any symptoms of discomfort at all, some never suffer from pain. Once symptoms are present, walking or daily activities may become harder due to increased discomfort.

Treatment:
Have your shoes fitted properly. Length, shape and foot type need to be considered when making your choice. The shoes should have firm heel counters as well as solid wide bases to give you better balance and stability, this will keep your feet straighter which will in turn assist the arch from falling over. Once a solid, good fitting shoe is on the foot, it is then to be determined whether or not a person may be in need of a pre made or custom orthotic to hold the foot in an even better position.
