A CertifiedPedorthist is trained in biomechanics, anatomy, the design, manufacture, modification and fit of shoes and foot orthoses to alleviate problems caused by disease, congenital condition, overuse or injury. Pedorthics is a well-established allied health profession which makes an invaluable contribution to public health.
Becoming a Certified Pedorthist requires completing the educational requirements approved by the National Commission on Orthotic, Prosthetic and Pedorthic Education. Additionally, there is a 1,000 hour internship requirement to be filled and in some states, licensure is required to practice. Furthermore, Board Certification is required in order to practice and that can be obtained by passing a written exam administered by either the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics or the Board of Certification and Accreditation International. annual continuing education credits are mandatory to maintain the pedorthic credential.
